Dressing Room Dilemmas

On August 7, 2021September 1, 2021 By Shell McCuskerLeave a comment

As I tried on two sizes of clothes in the mall dressing room, examining how washed out my face looked and noticing that my hair seemed to have a green tinge, I wondered if any woman feels good about herself in the dressing room. I had my answer when I heard a gasp come from another stall. …

Confessions of 40-somethings

On July 25, 2021September 1, 2021 By Shell McCuskerLeave a comment

“But officer,” I pleaded, “I have to go to the bathroom. That’s the only reason I was speeding.” And so, the dilemma of my overactive bladder goes. As soon as I turned 40, my hobby became finding the nearest ladies room.I find my other quadragenarians are also going through aging problems. Two quads I know …

Girl Talk–Note: Applies to Women from 20 to 90

On July 25, 2021September 1, 2021 By Shell McCuskerLeave a comment

One of the best qualities about sisters and good girlfriends is that we know how to share. I don’t mean clothes or jewelry (though many of us do) -- we know how to share our thoughts, feelings, experiences and advice. You know--the absolutely craziness that makes us women. And we must be crazy to get …

R U Understanding the Latest Technology?

On July 24, 2021September 2, 2021 By Shell McCuskerLeave a comment

I have a close friend named, Rutgg. Well, her name really isn’t Rutgg. It’s Ruth. I just happened to have had a hard time entering her name in my cell phone. I couldn’t figure out how to reverse, correct and pull out after entering a “g” instead of an “h” at the end of her …

Get Packing

On July 24, 2021September 2, 2021 By Shell McCuskerLeave a comment

Another year, we decided to go to the most magical place in the world, Disney World. It’s true, it is magical. It’s also true that it is not a vacation for parents. I woke up at 3:50 a.m. the day we left to finish packing for our trip. My husband, appalled at the amount of …

You’re Driving Me Crazy

On July 24, 2021September 2, 2021 By Shell McCuskerLeave a comment

I work full-time about an hour from my house and my husband stays at home with the kids and works part-time at night about 15 minutes from our house. Why am I telling you this minutia about our lives? Because it helps explain my frustration on our family trip to DC, a three…hour…tour or so …

Let’s Get the Man Out of Manicure

On July 11, 2021September 2, 2021 By Shell McCuskerLeave a comment

Why is it that I’m comfortable with a man gynecologist but not a man manicurist? You shave your legs when you’re going to the doctor but you REALLY shave your legs when you get a pedicure. They rub your legs up and down with lotion and you can’t help wonder as they chatter away in …

Corporate Successes but Mostly Failures

The corporate world–salary, benefits, holidays/weekends off. THE place to spend 40 years until you do–the commute, stress, politics. Still, my favorite place considering prior jobs–camp counselor (surprised I ever became a mother, fast-food hostess (donning unintentional fried chicken perfume), retail representative (working Black Friday even if I was dead). Through education and luck?, I entered Corporate America. Observations in this blog are general and not a knock on any of the wonderful companies who employed me. I appreciate the paycheck, 401k and free water.
